My idea centers around mass customisation of HOTELS and giving the user an integrated experience using the iPhone as the main tool to accomplish this.
This concept pairs up with the hotel chain - CitizenM - http://www.citizenm.com/. The… Continue

LAB QUESTIONS1. Why do you find it interesting? (irrespective of my project)
I find it interesting that a system can grow from a collective consciousness - That it evolves from the continued use of a social group.
I would be interested to read material on the "system's consciousness" - i will look into what is written on this application of AI - like the human immune system or crowd simulation(i might be straying off the point here). I would like to know if there is a way to apply… Continue

Here we go... research emergent design....
Emergence: "The whole is more than the sum of its parts." Where there is a level of behaviour that is unexpected or unintended.
Types:
1. Thermodynamic: The movement apears to be chaotic, but can in fact be described with simple rules.
2. Computational: Simple rules put together to describe complex behaviour.
3. Eptistemological: emergence of new meaning. Emergence takes place within the observer themsleves
e.g. emergence of a sense… Continue

- Research emergent design to find a suitable process that you think would be appropriate for mass cutomisation --> computational/ natural/ design
- define a SET OF ELEMENTS e.g. form/ behaviours together, flocking, game of life
- eploit these to produce something that is unique everytime - but still within a STYLE --> DEFINE a STYLE
- box of tools, maintaining my own style... how to apply this to experience
- look at emgerence within groups and experience --> could be with emo… Continue

Still working with the idea of smart/ adaptive spaces, I have decided to trash the Karaoke idea (as the application of my mass customisation project). Instead, I will focus on hotel rooms and hopefully come up with something will improve on the CitizenM Hotel idea in Amsterdam. Although,… Continue

Points to consider:
1. Be careful that my idea doesn't stray too far from the original concept of smart/ adaptive environements
2. Question: What am I offering?
Answer: Customising an experience, but offering it through the same sales channels that would be used for regular bookings.
3. Concentrate on asking questions about user experience
4. Question: Is there a way to combine the ideas of the explicit gathering of information with the use of information stored on a devi… Continue

Here is the article - I think it's important - I thought I'd just post the article on it's own in case you didn't read my last post:
Responsive Architecture through Parametric Design
How Parametric Systems Introduce Diversity, Adaptability, and Responsiveness into the Architectural Design Process

What happened in week 8? I have asked both people sitting next to me... and neither of them know what went on in class... I assume that means Rob just talked about Assignment 2.
I'm still in the process of modifying my idea...
Assignment 2 - due on Thursday 25th September ...1. develop an initial design for a computational system/tool to help people to customise products
2. identify the steps that someone will need to go through to customise their product and the techno… Continue

Watch this first to see where I'm coming from. The video is the CitizenM advert for their new hotel at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam. It refers to the Philips' development of the "Integrated Hotel Experience".
"One star is born"My idea for my application of mass-customisation is "Integrated Experience"
This idea centers itself on the concept designed by Philips for the CitizenM hotel chain. I have taken their idea of a fully customisable hotel con… Continue

This website is for the Keds' Studio. It's another site where you can customise your shoes, but at this site, the shoe is more of a canvas - limited by your imagination. The only thing that is pre-designed is the geometry of the shoe itself… Continue

I tried to steer clear of products in general... I was looking for an idea that couldn't fit into a box. While I was brainstorming, I started by asking myself these questions:
What are the goals that must be met from this research?
What do people want?
What do people need?
In what context?
Then I tried to think about what elements would I try to incorporate into my idea? I came up with the following:
- The customisation should have some insight into the user's "inner-selves" or ambiguously inc… Continue

This homepage is a bit misleading - maybe because I went in thinking that "celebrate originality" would direct me to the customization section of the website... I thought "adicolor" was enough to type into the search box in google to get me to the customisable range of adidas...… Continue

Some of the results of brainstorming and silliness... hopefully I'll fleash out an idea i like, that might actually work:
- Customisable DESSERTS - where the user has to do a quiz that will draw assumptions on their personality and a box of chocolates is created from these results
- Genetically modified plants/ flowers - creating bouquets corresponding to what the user wishes
- garden layouts/ vine arrangements in gardens created by a user's decisions and their own creation on the website
-… Continue
